Saint von Grunheide CDX
Born: October 1st, 2001

Named after the first Vancouver Police dog I caught on a bite sleeve many years ago, Saint is an ambassador for the breed in temperament, ethic and type. His father Cento z Pohranicni straze was imported from the Czech Republic's famous Czech Border Army Kennel "Pohranicni Straze" and sired by the famous V Chuligan z Pohranicni straze CS. Pedigree.

Solid black like his dad, Saint typifies the old Czech/DDR structure - large boned with a beautiful head. He has been my wing man at work by lending his calm and balanced energy with aggressive dogs, and demonstrating the

finer points of obedience exercises when words cannot fully illustrate. He has seven full brothers who serve on police departments in both Canada and the United States. On a personal level, Saint and I have spent literally hundreds and hundreds of hours training for competitive sport, attending and working seminars, competing in a handful of trials and matches, and hitting the tracking fields together. He has both his CKC Companion Dog and Companion Dog Excellent titles and our push is on for his tracking titles, an area he really excells. I consider him my greatest teacher to date.

On the lighter side, few who have met Saint would call him a quiet dog, although almost everyone falls in love with him, as he is full of character and is highly social. Our forays into competitive obedience have been noisy ones and probably why after his CDX we decided the obedience world didn't need to hear him talk through a utility title even though he knows the repertoire. His love affair with water began at the tender age of five months, when he crawled into the tub with my one-year-old daughter and joined her in a bubble bath. He sees it as his job to chase phantom squirrels from our hazelnut tree and and screams joyously as he runs through the back yard with his metal food bowl gripped in his teeth and tipped over his head. He has a penchant for car tires and his worn teeth bare the results. People I have never met tell me how they have heard the story of Saint chasing after one of my client's dogs who decided not to come back to her owner (after a 15 minute attempt), grabbing a hold of the dog's leash and dragging her across the field, presenting me with a chow chow bucking like a wild horse at the end of her tether. He is part of urban legend, this black bear of a dog.

He continues to inspire me, amuse me, frustrate me and leave me in awe when I stop and take in his beauty and his power He has been my companion, a protector over our home and children, and a joy to share in my life. I thank his breeder and my dear friend Suzanne Eviston for giving me this special boy - my "once in a lifetime" dog. I'm blessed to share my life with him.
